A retrofit of ORION-3.2.1 with the new 10" drivers in the

Leipzig, Germany. The talk was then followed by one and a half days of auditory illustrations of
different recording styles using PLUTO-2.1 in a large office room, which caused astonishment and delight
for many Tonmeister, Professors and Students.

Joerg Wuttke, of Schoeps Microfone design fame, was
instrumental in bringing my loudspeaker and room ideas to the attention of
Guenther Theile from the Organizing Committee of TMT26 and for the
opportunity to demonstrate what I would talk about. Marius ter Ellen brought
his Pluto loudspeakers from the Netherlands to make this possible.

My thanks to all who made this a successful presentation, especially to
Guenther Theile and Peter Maier for last minute help in toning down a highly
reverberant empty room. We carried in heavy felt curtains and foam bulk absorbers
    from a concept-A
truck to create an acoustically dead end to the room.

I have become inundated with emails. Paid order fulfillment is definitely my
priority. Please read the updated Caution:

    CAUTION:
  The content of
these pages may change without notice as I learn new things or find better
descriptions. The designs presented here may change as I make new observations
or gain more insight. I see myself as a seeker of truth, though I now know that
every person is, and ultimately truth is a construct. There is only this. Maybe what
has been done here points you to it. Audio has overwhelmingly been a hobby for
me, for my own pleasure and love of music. I enjoy to share what I found and
possibly to dispel a few misconceptions. My interest is not on the business side,
though I like that my activities pay for my hobbies. You may not agree with some
or all aspects of my designs, the approach that I take to them, or the theories.
I have no problem with that. Just do not ask me "what would happen if
...". Changes that you make to the designs are for your own pleasure and at
your own risk. But if you learn something worthwhile, then please let me know. I
have received increasing amounts of email. I have responded to every legitimate
letter that made its way through the Junk Mail, even when it meant repeating what has
been published. My DIY projects are not for beginners and it may be necessary
for you to buy subassemblies or a turnkey system from Wood Artistry. Please do
not ask me for individual help with your DIY difficulties. All my designs have
a Support Page. It is listed on the cover of your project documentation. There is an ORION/PLUTO Users Group with people who can help you. I respond to every
email eventually, but you may not get the answer you want. I
consider my writings in these web pages as brief and to the point. I labor over
every sentence and word and provide little redundancy. Read thoroughly and maybe
more than once. I do not write for the rank beginner, but for those who have
been around the block. You may need to study up. The links in my text are for
that. I have not been standing still
since I started this web in 1999 and with the idea of a brain dump of my previous
findings so they would not get lost to the audio community, and with the PHOENIX
as an example, so you could test my findings for yourself. In 2006, I thought I would go
into a support and maintenance mode. No new design. Stuff happened, more
enjoyment to share. Just do not ask me about the timing or performance of future
products or if there will be any. I feel free to change things, always keep the
upgrade path in mind, but I am not bound by that should I find something
significant. I could stop now and be content with what has been
 accomplished.

I am posting the Digital Photo Processes pages. This will
highlight my limited bandwidth issues and probably force me into a more
costly hosting plan. But then there is always the Website
    CD.

  - 2/15/08

A 1999 paper by B. Moore that deals with "Controversies and mysteries in spatial
hearing" came to my attention again. I had
forgotten about it. It would have helped me to understand the reason for the
surprising similarity between an omni and a dipole in a reverberant room
    right away.

  - 2/13/08

It is likely that the website will be down on the 21st day of each month due
to heavy traffic, but it will always resume on the 22nd when my 50 GB/mo
bandwidth allowance period starts up again.

  - 1/1/08

I added the "cocktail party effect" to the paragraph about "Sound
stream segregation" on the "Recording for stereo" page.
Some readers were apparently confused about what Don is trying to
    accomplish.

In case you wondered why the website was shut down yesterday for several
hours, I had reached my monthly bandwidth allowance of 50 Gigabyte. Today
starts a new monthly pay period with my ISP.
If you own the Website CD, then you have access
to 99% of the information here at all times and you probably will not notice
    any future interruption.

I receive about 300 email messages per day. 98% of that is junk and I just

subject if you want to get through my Spam filter. Before writing please

  - 12/18/07-2

My recent talk in London gives a summary of what has been learned here about
loudspeaker design for accurate sound reproduction in relatively small
rooms. ORION+ and PLUTO+ embody the key features that a loudspeaker must
have. I hope that these prototypes will stimulate eventually some new
loudspeaker developments for the high-end audio market so that a wider
audience can hear what a simple 2-channel sound system is capable of. I am
not holding my breath, though. The industry, its marketers and commentators
are firmly locked into vented boxes and no fresh air comes in. Besides, the
profit in this business is in cables, spikes, room tuning, etc. and now
compact speakers for the iPod generation, but their hearing might be already
    damaged.
